The Sex Offender Sweep program is currently suspended due to budget and staffing cuts. Patrol deputies are currently only able to respond to in progress, life threatening emergencies.

From December 2010 through May 2012, deputies used a list provided by Oregon State Police to search for out-of-compliance sex offenders and force them into compliance.

Since the “Sex Offender Sweeps” started in December 2010, the Sheriff’s Office has 26 out-of-compliance offenders. Many offenders have been identified as having moved out of state, in which cases we refer their information to the U.S. Marshal to pursue them if they haven't registered elsewhere. Five offenders registered shortly after the sweeps were publicized, likely as a result.

Other offenders whom we pursued were either unable to be located or out of compliance due to extenuating circumstances, such as being imprisoned elsewhere.
