Sex Offender Sweeps
Based on the list of out-of-compliance sex offenders provided by Oregon State Police, our deputies have been searching for approximately six offenders in our county per week.
Since the “Sex Offender Sweeps” started in December 2010, the Sheriff’s Office has arrested 14 out-of-compliance offenders, lodging ten and citing four. Many offenders have been identified as having moved out of state, in which cases we refer their information to the U.S. Marshal to pursue them if they haven't registered elsewhere. Five offenders registered shortly after the sweeps were publicized, likely as a result.
Other offenders whom we pursued were either unable to be located or out of compliance due to extenuating circumstances, such as being imprisoned elsewhere.
