Incident Date/Time: May 5, 2012, about 2:50 p.m.
Incident Location: Rainie Falls on the Rogue River
Case Number: 12001279
Joshua S. Eddy, 03/05/1993
Resident of Rogue River, Oregon
Next of kin notified
Yesterday, two marine deputies rafted from the Grave Creek boat landing to Marial searching for Joshua Eddy, the 19-year-old who fell in at Rainie Falls on Saturday, May 5th.
The area is inaccessible by power boat, thereby requiring the deputies to raft the 12-15 mile distance in an attempt to locate the body.
A private plane also flew overhead searching for him.
Neither the plane nor the deputies were able to locate him, and the official search has been called off.
It is believed that Joshua Eddy drowned, and his next of kin have been notified.
The river is very high, swift and cold at this time, which contributes to the difficulty in locating a body. A Search & Rescue dive team was not deployed due to the danger that the current conditions would present to volunteer dive team members.
Eddy fell in at about 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, May 5th while standing near Rainie Falls trying to snap a photo.
He was reportedly with a group of 6-8 people. Some stayed there near the river while others hiked out and drove to the Rand BLM office to call 911.
On Saturday, Sheriff's deputies, Rural Metro Fire, American Medical Reponse and two Search & Rescue ground searchers responded.
Citizens are advised to be very cautious when engaging in any activity on the Rogue River. The river conditions are high, swift and cold. The terrain in many areas is rocky and unsure. Always travel with a companion, and remember that cell phone service is sparse.
If you see a body in the river, do not approach or touch it. Call 911 and first responders will respond to safety recover it.
